The film

Directed by Alan Miles, 'Who Shot the Sheriff?' tells the story of one of the most exciting mass movements in British history.

The film features interviews and unseen footage of artists from the Rock against Racism (RAR) movement of the 70s and the Love Music Hate Racism (LMHR) movement today including The Clash, The Libertines, The Specials, Ms Dynamite, Pete Doherty, Steel Pulse, Hard-Fi, Misty in Roots, X-Ray Spex, Sham 69, Estelle and Babyshambles.

The film tracks the rise of racism and the National Front in Britain during the 70s - and how a generation, black and white, fought back against the Nazi threat, and there's lots of rarely seen archive footage from the punk & RAR era - including the infamous 1978 Carnival in east London's Victoria Park where 100,000 marched to the show headlined by The Clash and Tom Robinson Band.

The story uses a wealth of interviews with the leading artists and activists who created RAR - many speaking for the first time about what happened - including Mick Jones, Jerry Dammers, Neville Staples, Jimmy Pursey, Poly Styrene, Don Letts, Billy Bragg, and
RAR founders Red Saunders and Roger Huddle.

As well as documenting a great political and musical movement, "Who Shot the Sheriff" links the struggle to stop the National Front in the 1970s with campaigns like Unite Against Fascism aiming to stop the likes of the fascist British National Party gaining ground in Britain today.

'Who Shot the Sheriff?' was made possible by the generous support of the Amicus trade union.

Love Music Hate Racism is proud to present a host of hot new indie bands...

Cazals have been described as "East End dandies" performing a "veritable riot of syncopated beats and riffs, with funky bass rhythms and refreshingly minimal strumming" Cazals most recent release "Poor Innocent Boys", on 1234 Records "was intelligent, dark and downright filthy in places"

Ralfe Band's "music is an eclectic mish mash of songs and instrumental tracks, with varying influences from European and American folk to film soundtracks and ghostly waltzes. On stage they use vocals, mandolin, piano, viola, acoustic guitar, lap steel, bass, drums and percussion to concoct their sound." Their second single "1500 Years", taken from their forthcoming album "Sword" is released on Skint Records on 22nd August

ANTHONY WALKER MEMORIAL CONCERT POSTPONED AMID MASSIVE ARTIST SUPPORT
August 16, 2005, 04:00 PM

Love Music Hate Racism has decided to postpone Thursday 18th's Zutons-headlined benefit show for the Anthony Walker family campaign at Liverpool Academy.

In the course of putting the show together it became clear that sadly it was going to very difficult for Ms Dynamite to appear due to prior commitments.
A host of other acts who expressed support were unable to appear on this date due to bookings at festivals at this busy time of year for the music industry.

While The Zutons and The Stands were happy to go ahead on Thursday, we felt it would be great to also include some of the other major acts who wanted to help -including Ms Dynamite, who will definitely be involved with the rearranged date.

The response to our call for a music show to celebrate our multicultural society and show unity in opposing racism in Merseyside and beyond has been phenomenal.

Scores of artists from across the musical spectrum have expressed their support for the Walker family at this difficult time, and have signed the Love Music Hate Racism (LMHR) statement (see below), including to name but a few: Snow Patrol, Jamelia, Franz Ferdinand, The La's, Daniel Bedingfield, Beverley Knight, Kaiser Chiefs, Echo & The Bunnymen, Estelle, Lemar, Bloc Party, Hard-Fi, and Craig David.

In order to make this show an even bigger and most fitting memorial possible for Anthony, and to raise as much support as possible for the Walker family, we will be rescheduling at the Academy some time in the next month or so. Details of the revised date and line-up will be announced later this week - see local press and www.lmhr.org.uk for updates. Tickets already bought for this week's show will be valid for the new date, or refunds are available.

We'd like to thank all the bands involved and staff at the Liverpool Academy for their continuing support.

LMHR statement signed by artists
"We the undersigned wish to condemn the horrific racist murder of Anthony Walker in his hometown of Huyton on Saturday 30th July.
A talented rapper and basketball player, Anthony was brutally murdered because of the colour of his skin. Our deepest condolences go out to his family and friends.
The diverse and multicultural communities of Merseyside - and of all cities in Britain, must stand together and defend their right to live in peace. Racist attacks have increased by 600% in the last year, and in the wake of the London bombings the Muslim community , in particular have been targeted. We must not allow this to happen!
Love Music Hate Racsim aims to use the positive energy of the music scene to fight back against racism and all fascist groups like the BNP.
Music unites us and gives us strength while racism seeks only to divide and weaken us."

JUSTICE FOR ANTHONY WALKER
August 02, 2005, 02:13 PM

Dear Friends,

As you are aware, Anthony Walker an 18-yer-old black man was murdered in Huyton, Liverpool, in the early hours of Saturday morning. The police regard this as a racially-motivated attack.

There will be a Justice for Anthony Walker vigil to be held Tuesday 2nd August, at 5.30pm on the steps of St George's Hall, William Brown Street, Liverpool L1. This vigil has been called by Unite Against Fascism and we are urging the widest possible support for it.
In attendance and speaking will be local trade unionists, politicians, faith groups, anti-racist campaigners and community leaders. The vigil is an opportunity to show our condemnation of this despicable racist murder and our commitment to a multicultural Merseyside.

Please do all you can to attend and encourage others to do so. Please send messages of support for Anthony's family to unite@natfhe.org.uk
